Top tier favorite breakfast spot to go to in the area. Service is always fast and friendly. One time I was even offered to take my coffee to go which was really nice of him! We also have plenty of leftovers

Black Bear Diner is a chain originally from Mount Shasta up in Northern California and currently has a number of locations around LA and Riverside. I would say it's like an upscale Denny's in that there will be fast food and fair prices but quality will not be as good as some smaller local places. They have a giant menu that is filled with all sorts of breakfast classics and the portion sizes are very large. This location has a large free parking lot attached otherwise street parking is also easy to find. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table our Saturday brunch, but it was quite busy when we arrived. I chose the California Bacon Benedict, which has avocado, thick cut bacon, tomato, and spinach on a traditional English muffin. I will say the eggs were done well and overall, it was very good although I would probably suggest skipping the spinach. We also ordered a waffle for the side and it was very good, but it was quite dense. I wish it was a little bit fluffier. Overall I think it's fair to say Black Bear is a solid four out of five but I would dine here again when in the area.

Love their huge, and I mean "HUGE", portions. Absolutely love cabin ambiance with little wooden bears throughout this place. I stopped by couple times and frankly speaking, there were times where customer service was bit delayed. But, overall, I do recommend this place if you are in South Bay.

It's been 10+ years since my first review that wasn't all that great. They've definitely improved. Is there still inconsistency with the omelette? Yes. For example, when I order a 3 egg omelette and I've found my wife's 2 egg scramble to have more eggs, it feels a bit disheartening. The toast isn't burnt anymore. Really, besides its proximity to where I live, the reason I keep going back is the value (hearty portions for a reasonable price) and the usually outstanding service. The busser who takes the drink orders is friendly and remembers that I like ice tea, no lemon, my wife- coffee and the kids-water. The hostess on the weekends, Janetee, aka"Mama Bear" makes you feel like you're coming into her own home for a meal. All the servers are super friendly. If you've never been to a Black Bear Diner (it's an expanding chain), the decor of the restaurant is just like you are in a country diner in Bear Country, around a lake. Lots of Bear decor. Bottom line, will I be back? Yes. The only reason I don't give this location a 5 star review is that there is still some inconsistency with the food.

I placed an order online for pickup at around 8:30pm on a Wednesday. My order was ready earlier than expected. Super friendly guy at the front. When I got home, I saw everything was packaged nicely and separately for each type of food. Much appreciated! Haven't been to a black bear diner in yearssss. I was actually surprised that everything was tasty vs how typical diner food tastes. Would recommend! Note for myself for future orders: sweet potato fries and tri tip are delicious. Also, fresh fruit and sweet cream waffle were good, and waffle was big and thick.
